networking. If you have the drive and put in the appropriate amount of
time, it can be very rewarding both personally and professionally.

Because it can be difficult to keep in touch with your network on a

good notes after your conversations. On the back of a business card,
write down important information about people's careers and their

Information to remember could include job description, past employers,

touch with an individual.

After you take notes on a business card, you should immediately

send out to your network on a regular basis.

As you meet people, you can add them to your list. This is an easy way
to keep in touch. Of course, make sure to let your new contacts know
about this and get their permission to add them to your list. The last
thing you want to do is hurt your reputation in networking circles.

Whatever you decide to e-mail to people, make sure that it is of
value. Otherwise, your network will not appreciate the e-mails. Find a
common interest or topic that not only demonstrates your expertise but

will begin to brand yourself as an expert in whatever topic you decide

Another great way to keep in touch with people is to invite them to
events that you will be attending. It doesn't matter so much what type
of event so long as it may have some interest to someone else.

events and birthdays. Be creative in choosing which events will
provide some value to certain people in your network.

You don't necessarily need to reach out to your entire network to let
them know what events you are attending. Rather, use this as an
opportunity to reach out to select individuals who you think would

invitation and show that you were thinking about them.

Ron Smith, the man who interviewed Pat Gelsinger for his first job at Intel over two decades ago, still has the report he wrote up on the brash 18-year-old:

“Smart, arrogant, aggressive - he’ll fit right in.”

While these qualities initially launched Pat’s career at Intel, the largest manufacturer of computer microprocessors in the world, they nearly did him in as he drew near to the top.

Knew What I Wanted to do

“The first time I touched a computer, I knew I wanted to be in computers,” Pat says.

When Intel offered him a job straight out of college, Pat jumped at the opportunity. Hired as a technician, Pat was disappointed to learn his job basically involved being a gopher for the engineers.

“The only career aspiration I had when I started at Intel was to be the engineer telling the technician what to do as opposed to the other way around.”

Pat planned to achieve this goal through education. Two months after starting at Intel, he began working on his bachelor’s degree in addition to his full-time job. He planned to eventually finish his master’s and PhD as well.

Hard Questions
However, Pat’s plans for conquering Intel were somewhat derailed when he met his future wife, Linda. On the plus side, Pat’s feelings for Linda, a devout Christian, caused him to ask some hard questions about his lifestyle. Although he claimed to be a believer, his lifestyle told a different story. Pat realized it was time to get serious about his faith, and in 1980, he committed his life to the Lord. But even before he and Linda had discussed marriage, she was diagnosed with a progressive problem in her reproductive system. Unless she had children soon, she wouldn’t be able to have them at all. When she broke the news to Pat, he was devastated. But he decided it was God's will to begin a family. Thus, he added to his busy work and school schedule immediately getting started on a family. Miraculously, Linda eventually gave birth to four children.

As Pat’s family grew, his career also advanced. He even managed to finish his master’s degree at Stanford and was offered a full scholarship to complete his PhD. Not wanting to pass up the opportunity, Pat resigned from Intel. But Intel wasn’t going to let him go that easily. They promised Pat that if he stayed at the company, they would make it worth his while. True to their word, they made Pat design manager of the 486 computer chip and, at age 32, named him as the youngest vice president in Intel’s history.

Wakeup Call
Pat’s new responsibilities also included heading up the videoconferencing and Internet communication division. However, after four years of development, the project was deemed a failure. This served as a major wakeup call for Pat.

“You’re praying all the time, ‘Why God? What did I do wrong?’ Clearly, you’re struggling with your own pride.”

Pat now looks at the experience as God’s way of extracting some of that pride from his life, enabling him to work on the aspects of his character that were preventing him from being as influential for the kingdom of God as he might have been.

Today, as one of the most influential people at Intel, Pat says the first real turning point in his life was when he committed his life to Christ at age 18.

“It was like God reached in and plucked me from the path I was on and put me on a new path where he can use me in a very effective and powerful way.”

Jerry Palmer: The Million Dollar Man

His wife doesn't receive a paycheck, although he can count on her to give him advice on design and the content. "She's kind of my quality assurance person and will say she doesn't like a graphic or will brainstorm on keywords." Sometimes she even reads his emails before he sends them to make sure he's being coherent. He keeps an office about 10 minutes from home but goes in when he needs to concentrate on something or make important calls - otherwise he's pretty content working from the home office. Plus, they live near a great park and ball field where he loves to take his two kids, who are 5 and 3 years old. "I can spend all day there." Currently, he does a kind of week on, week off. Works on the sites for a week and then spends a week riding his bike, going to the park, reading business books and magazines- Forbes or Fortune. "I can read those like some would read Harry Potter." It sounds idyllic and it is, but the journey wasn't without emotional bumps. The hardest decisions he and his wife made about quitting their day jobs was what to do about his wife's career. She had been a full-time worker since she was 16 years old, Palmer says, and changing to a stay-at home mom was jarring. It was a big step for her to quit her
job but the decision was made easier by the fact that the income from
the affiliate sites mandated they convert to full-time affiliates. "The sites were growing so much," Palmer says, "that the only thing holding them back was our time investment. So, we had to spend more time." Quitting their jobs was the no-brainer - it was clear on paper that the commissions were paying way more than their day jobs. Equally unsettling was what to do with their success. "Someguys get a little cash and they go out and buy a Mercedes or a new house," he says. But in the end, quality of life won out. As a born and raised Utahan, Palmer is definitely very family-oriented just as they teach in the Mormon church, even though Palmer says they don't
go to temple as much as he did when he was young. But the luxury of having more free time now allows him to get more involved in the kids'extracurricular activities like sports and gymnastics.

While Palmer did upgrade his home and put the kids in private school, he and his wife thought pretty rationally about what to do about their new-found wealth. They kind of played a spinning globe game - if we could live anywhere, where would it be? They thought Austin, Texas, looked attractive and the San Francisco Bay Area certainly was a consideration. But in the end they decided to stay right where they
were in a suburb of Salt Lake City. They knew it to be family-friendly and the pace of life was perfect for them.

Things have been so idyllic, in fact, that Palmer decided to share his
secrets. His recently available e-book, High Performance Affiliate Marketing, pretty much recounts how he did it and with the right elbow grease, anyone can do it.

He says the book is practical and not one of those "get-rich" books.
"I basically wrote it because I think there was a need for it," he says. Most of the books on the market, he adds, seem so dated even when they are only a year or two old. "I wanted to know if my knowledge was transferable. I led this internship with five other affiliates and they are doing Ok. I just sat down with them for five
hours and two of them have quit their day jobs." He says one even worked for NASA, surely a dream job for many, and yet this guy gave it all up to become an affiliate.

One of the unique things about the book - available at QuitYourDayJob.com - is that when you buy it you get all the updates for free in perpetuity. As Palmer adds revisions to the book as the markets dictate, all buyers get those revisions too.

Why essentially give away his secrets? "I think the Internet is a big
place," he says, "and lots of people wonder why I give the secrets away but I believe in karma. Since if I give something to the community I will benefit from it." He even offers a free support forum for the book so that if readers have questions, they just email him directly to his personal email account.

"As an affiliate I just build websites and go over numbers," he says.
"But I really enjoy the face-to-face, so that's why I reach out to the merchants. And as I operate on an island over here, the book feeds my social needs."

While he said he wants to retire at 30, his version of retirement would be to only work a few hours a day. "I've always had the entrepreneurial spirit," he says proudly. "You know, I had worked at a huge call center here and was answering tech support calls for Microsoft. By the end of my stay there I was overseeing 80 employees but was really turned off by the red tape of big companies. I said I would only work for small companies from then on, where I could make an impact. You see, there is always a ceiling and I figured if I worked for myself, there would be no ceiling."

Jeremy Palmer knew he had the entrepreneurial spirit. He just hadn't found the right thing to let it soar.
He knew there was more to life than his mid-level job at a small financial services company. As a Web developer, in 2002 he launched website MeetYourMatch.com in hopes that it could generate a little extra cash for his wife and two kids in Utah and give him an outlet to pursue his independent business ideas.
He sold things on eBay. He sold some of his possessions just to get his affiliate sites off the ground. He wasn't exactly sure of what he was doing. That was 2001. Fast forward to his current life as an affiliate marketer and he would say his wings are no longer clipped - in fact, in 2005 he made $1 million in commissions.
He will be the first to say that he had never envisioned this life for he and his family. In the beginning, he worked part time at night and on weekends on a dating site but it wasn't making much money. He loved building websites but didn't see a lot of cash in assembling other people's sites. His original dating site went up in 2002, a time when dating on the Internet was just about to explode and Palmer felt like he had a killer domain name - with MeetYourMatch.com. "I was naive to think I could compete with Yahoo personals," he says. "It was a great failure for me."
Meanwhile, his wife had a good career in the financial services industry - had her own office and at one point was the breadwinner for the family. The company he was doing Web design for had an affiliate program through Commission Junction - but he wasn't involved in that part of the business. The guy who ran it, though, started to tell him the numbers. Some of these people were making up to six figures a month. "So I threw up some links on my site," he says, and in six months he was matching his salary in commissions.
He had finally touched that entrepreneurial magic and he dove into it head first. Today Palmer has a network of more than 100 websites (he doesn't even know the exact number), an e-book on how he made it and is Commission Junction's 2005 Horizon Award Winner and a Yahoo Search Marketing Ambassador. His domains include FreeBudgetingSoftware.com, DatingSiteCritic.com, CreditRepairGuy.org and, of course, the site for his e-book: QuitYourDayJob.com (see page 44).
How does he do it with so many sites? The key, he says, is to work with templates that need very little manual tweaking. He has 50 dating sites that are virtually the same - they are just targeted by geography. But, Palmer says, it's not about how many websites you have or following a more-is-more philosophy. "Each page should do just one thing," he says. "You don't want to overwhelm the customer with choices. You know, like when you go to call Dell and the first thing you hear is 30 options to direct your call. It takes you forever or you hang up before you get an answer."
The other main reason Palmer claims he's successful is because he goes the extra yard to reach out to the merchants. It satisfies his social nature, he says. He typically spends a few hours a day just talking to the merchant reps.
"I have their cell phone numbers and they have mine." He says that just talking to people is crucial to getting help and getting what you want from a merchant. Sometimes Palmer will fly out to see the merchant or the company will send someone to meet with him. Of course, Palmer admits merchants don't do this for everyone, but, then again, he makes six figure commissions - that puts him in the upper stratosphere of earners. It's no wonder merchants will roll out the red carpet for him, especially when 80 percent of most merchant's affiliates are not earning enough to register a blip.
He says being a big earner just takes hard work. His day really isn't much different from most affiliates. Typically, Palmer starts his day by viewing his stats on CJ, LinkShare, etc. Then, he logs into Google AdWords to check on his costs. "I do have some spreadsheet systems that I made up to make it easier on myself and this way I can make bidding decisions based on that and see where my ROI from the previous day was." All of this, he says, is a way of tailoring your existing sites to make them better. "It is far easier to improve on existing websites than to launch a brand new site."
He's always looking for ways to improve things. "I probably differ from most in that I will build a website around a merchant's product and services instead of just throwing a link on my site - then throw a couple of hundred keywords at it."
Once traffic looks promising, he will expand. It could take few days to a few weeks to see if it is worth it. He claims that he's got more patience than most affiliates and he believes that's what helps him to see if ROI kicks in and to wait for the results.
Palmer then spends the rest of his work time building relationships - over chat, email or by phone talking to the merchants. It's his favorite part of the job.
"You want to know the dirty little secret of affiliate marketing?" he says conspiratorially. "I gained 30 pounds because you don't get a lot of exercise just sitting, building websites." He says it took a lot of hard work and sacrifice. He says he sold a favorite - and very expensive - racing bike and some of his personal gadgets - a road bike, Palm Pilot and cell phone - to get the business started.
"People buy into the hype and hope. I want to retire by the time I'm 30. So, in the beginning I was doing 20-hour days and still do some of those sometimes." The reason so many affiliates don't turn over the big numbers, according to Palmer, is because they are unwilling to do the tough work. He says you have to put in the labor on optimizing your site and making it eye-catching. He's constantly experimenting - putting up a site and throwing a few hundred keywords at it to see if it can bring numbers. It's fun for him.
Palmer proudly states he still has no employees on his payroll. (to be continued)

Easy Steps to Prevent Premature Aging

Aging occurs in everybody. It is inevitable that as we grow older we age, however, this does not mean that as we get older we have to feel, look, and respond like we are older. Our bodies do not have to break down as quickly as they do. In fact, many of the outwards signs of growing old can be slowed - and life may even be prolonged - by maintaining a sensible approach to diet.

In order to slow down the aging process, take the following five steps and implement them in your daily life:

1. Consume a balanced diet
2. Drink more water and fluids
3. Eat regularly and frequently
4. Reduce intake of fats, processed foods, etc.
5. Exercise

Let's take a closer look at these five steps, and how to easily implement them into your life without making any drastic changes to your current lifestyle.

First is to have a diet that is balanced. Along with this, it is important to also include plenty of fiber in your diet. This means eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, pastas, rice, etc. You should eat plenty of these each day, and complement them with proteins. When it comes to aging, it is important to note that, while protein deficiency plays a role in the development of osteoporosis, too much protein can also promote bone loss..

It is imperative to get the correct amount of protein from the right sources. For example, the proteins found in the Moringa tree and its usable parts (leaves, pods, etc.) are going to be better for you than the proteins found in a chicken breast. The proteins in the Moringa tree are more bioavailable, and therefore more beneficial to your body. A healthy, balanced diet will help you maintain a healthy body composition and weight and provide you with the nutrients for optimal health and functioning.

Drinking plenty of water and fluids is very important, and very few people drink enough fluids each day to help their bodies ward off aging too quickly. Because our bodies consist of so much water, it makes sense that water is our life force. If it is your life force, why do so many people neglect to drink enough each day?

Dehydration causes many symptoms of poor health, including headaches, achy joints, lack of energy, lethargy, etc. All of these symptoms can be directly linked to not enough fluids in the body. Every tissue and cell as well as every organ and system in your body requires water to function properly. Degeneration associated with aging occurs more rapidly in people who are not properly hydrated.

If hydrating yourself is something you struggle with, try carrying something small and handy, such as a Zija, with you wherever you go. It is a convenient size, all natural, and provides you with hydration, as well as providing you with other essential nutrients and vitamins, all in a handy little can. Do not try and hydrate yourself with sodas or other drinks that are high in artificial ingredients and sugars.

While it may not seem like eating regularly and all day long will ward off aging too quickly, it can. By consuming five small meals and snacks throughout the day you are less prone to binge eating, and having too high of a caloric intake. If you eat regularly you gain less weight, and you increase your metabolism.

Your metabolism, the rate at which you burn calories for internal functions, can be compared to an engine, in that the more often you give it fuel, the better it works. If you starve your body for periods of time, your metabolism slows down, and a slowed metabolism makes it much more difficult to lose weight and much easier to gain weight.

However this does not mean you should snack all day on foods that are unhealthy and that do not have a high nutritional value. Snacking throughout the day on potato chips and pastries will not do your body any more good than starving it. Make sure to pack healthy snacks like an apple, banana, or an orange. These require no refrigeration etc. and are a great option for a quick pick-me-up.

Reducing fat intake is extremely crucial to anti-aging. Dietary fat is very easily converted to body fat, so controlling your fat intake means more control over the weight gain associated with aging. Obvious foods to avoid include fried foods, creams (which are very high in fat content), and processed foods such as cakes and cookies and most precooked entrees. This will probably be the biggest lifestyle change for many, but it does not have to be a difficult adjustment. When you feel the urge for something sweet, or processed, go for wholesome, fresh foods first. Eat an apple before you eat a candy bar, and you may not want the candy bar anymore.

Fresh foods, especially foods that are rich in vitamins, antioxidants, etc., should be the staples in your diet. Processed foods do not have to be eliminated; rather they should only complement a diet that is rich in fresh fruits, vegetables and whole wheat grains. Look for foods that are rich in nutrients, and rather than fill up on "empty" junk foods, eat foods that give your body what it needs.

Last but not least is exercise. Time is the biggest excuse for not exercising. So, if this is your excuse, incorporate forms of exercise into your existing daily routine. For example, if you live on a second or third floor, rather than take the elevator or walk the stairs, try jogging up the stairs. If you are vacuuming a room, do lunges as you push the vacuum across the floor. As you carry in groceries, use the weight of the bags as free weights and do a few curls. You do not have to go out to the gym to increase the amount of exercise your body gets daily.

There's a common theme I've been hearing from a lot
of people I talk to when it comes to being successful

This is the checklist before you begin seriously promoting an affiliate programe.
1. Does the affiliate program offer you a free way to join
without buying the product or service?

2. Contact other affiliates already in the program to see if
they have had any problems.

3. Is the product or service related to your target audience?

4. Can they notify you by e-mail when a sale is made?

5. Do they offer backend products so you can get repeat sales
from the same person?

6. How often will you receive a commission check?

7. Do you get credited for a sale if people come back in month
and then make a purchase.

8. Can you get around-the-clock help online or offline?

9. Do you get a large percentage of each sale as commission?

10. Do they provide you with proven sales material? (links,
banners, classified ads, sales letters etc)

11. Will they give you the leeway to create promotional ads.

12. Do they offer you access to an online sales stats page?

13. Do they use a reputable system to track your sales?

14. Does the affiliate program pay commission for sales of
people who sign up under you?

15. Can they offer customers a lot of different ordering
options, so in return you won't lose sales.

16. Will they keep in contact with you on a regular basis by

If you've been following what's been going on in the Internet
Marketing scene then I'm sure you've at least heard about
DesktopLightning.com by now.

A lot of people are saying really good things about the site,
but are they true?

I decided to write up an honest review of the site, covering
what I believe to be its strengths and its weaknesses, just
to clear it up once and for all...

In A Nutshell
-------------

A catchy new viral marketing tool, capable of broadcasting
messages directly to people's desktops. Easy to use, and
caters primarily to those who have something they want to
promote and are looking for a better way to do it.

(Read on for why I didn't give it 5 stars)

1. Initial Impressions
----------------------

When I was first introduced to DesktopLightning.com, I wasn't
quite sure exactly what to think. Everyone was saying it was
going to be more powerful than e-mail marketing, but this
seemed like too bold of a claim.

I signed up anyway, since I usually give things a chance --
that's how I have found the several sites I do really trust
and rely on.

The signup process did take about 60 seconds, as advertised,
and their software program downloaded and installed in about
30 seconds. No long, tedious install processes here. If you
own downloadable software, you might want to take a look at
how quick their install process is.

Right after installing the software, it ran immediately, and
I was quickly presented with a tool to invite my friends.

Within one-click's access was my Inbox, the tool to send
broadcasts, a statistics page, and my favorite, the "Build
Your Network" page.

I'll get more into why that's my favorite page later.

2. Viral Growth
---------------

This is where the site really shines, in my opinion. The
purpose of a viral marketing site is that you should be able
to invite just a few people, and then it will start growing
on its own.

Many sites claim to work like this, but few actually work as
advertised.

I'm not sure if it's because of their unique concept or the
slick implementation, but this site is REALLY viral. Here's
some of the testimonials they got, which I think sum it up
pretty well:

"I haven't ever seen a system build a downline so
fast. I joined your program just to try something
new. Four days later I had a downline of 43 people.
This is unbelievable."

"I invited just a handful of people only a few days
ago and I already have 48 members on 5 levels below
me. I am going to keep promoting this, but I see it
has a life of it's own now. I couldn't stop my
network from expanding if I wanted to!"

Although they obviously can't guarantee results for anyone,
the general consesus is that most people who do get those
initial few people in are experiencing results similar to
these.

I give DesktopLightning.com an A+ for spreading like wildfire.

3. Direct-To-Desktop Broadcasts
-------------------------------

So, once you have the people in your network from the direct
invitations and the viral growth, then it really gets cool.
Now is when you get to broadcast whatever message you want
directly to their desktops.

Gone are the days of sending out emails and wondering if
they were received due to spam filters and crowded inboxes.

If you upgrade to their Platinum membership, then you can even
get exact statistics on the percentage of your broadcasts that
were opened, but the Platinum membership is not the subject
of this review.

Here's how it works -- the DesktopLightning.com software is
what allows the direct-to-desktop communication to be
received. Since everyone in your network will have the
DesktopLightning.com application installed, just as you do,
this is what allows such smooth and instant communication
to occur.

Within one hour of your sending the message, everyone in your
network who is online will receive a notification on their
desktop that they can click to read your message.

Anyone who isn't online at the time will receive it when they
log on next.

I'm sure you can see why this type of communication has been
more successful than email as of late, so I won't get into
it too much here. The basic point though is that there's no
way your message can be lost, overlooked, or blocked by any
filters.

If you upgrade to their Platinum service you can do things
like embed video and sound right into the broadcast, but
again, I'll save the Platinum service for another review.

4. Building Your Network
------------------------

Most sites out there nowadays don't really help you build a
network of people below you. They just throw you a URL and
tell you to run with it.

While this works for most advanced people, it's not something
that's very easy for people who are just starting out.

DesktopLightning.com went really far this time to make sure
that everyone has a way to bring people into their network,
regardless of skill level.

When you click on the "Build Your Network" link from within
their application, you'll be presented with a surprising
number of tools to help you build your downline.

Everything from banners, to popups, to text ads, to invitation
tools, to emails to send out, etc.

Then, they continue to offer something which I haven't seen on
any Internet Marketing site yet -- they have a "Starting From
Scratch" section, designed specifically for people who have
no list and no website with traffic.

If you're in that position, then you'll love this section,
since they detail specific strategies you can use to promote
DesktopLightning.com (or anything for that matter), even if
you don't have anything to start with.

Quite a valuable resource.

5. Not For Everyone
-------------------

With all that said, the only downside to DesktopLightning.com
is that it's not for everyone.

Of course, some might see that as an upside, since it's a more
targeted opportunity.

Basically, the bottom line is that DesktopLightning.com is a
promotional tool. You need to have something you want to
promote or advertise before you can really make use of the
site.

This is all due to the fact that the basic concept is that
you build a viral network of people, and then broadcast
something to it.

But, this "something" is whatever you want, so you must
already have something you'd want to send to a lot of people.

If you don't have something yet, you could start building your
network first, and then once you get something to promote
you'll be ready to launch it immediately.

If you do have something to promote, that's when the site
really shines.

6. Conclusion
-------------

I would recommend this site to anyone who has something to
promote or advertise.

It definitely works, and your downline will grow extremely
fast if you put some energy into getting it started.

The direct-to-desktop broadcasts are a killer app in today's
online climate, where emails barely even get through anymore.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it has
nothing to offer for people who don't have anything to
promote or advertise yet.

If you want to advertise or promote something to a lot of
people in a unique and poweful way, then this site is for
you.

At any rate, my general opinion is that since it's so quick to
set up and try, if you have something you want to promote you
might as well go check it out.

You can always remove it later if you decide you don't like it.

Beta testers needed for new Website Optimizer
Looking to increase the number of conversions you're getting on your site? If so, you'll likely be interested to hear what Ann-Lee, from the Website Optimizer team, has to say about a new tool:

As an advertiser you spend both time and money driving traffic to your website, but if your site doesn't engage your audience then it's likely that you aren't converting those visitors into customers. We know that this can be difficult to test and we want to help you out.

Over the coming weeks we'll be testing a new tool called the Website Optimizer that can help you find out which content will convert best on your site. Whether you define a conversion as a purchase or a newsletter sign-up, Website Optimizer allows you to experiment with different headlines, copy, and images on your site in order to find out which combination results in the most conversions. You can use this tool on your landing page or any page that represents a conversion.

Hi Onliners,
Here are an assorted links you may be interested to tap to earn money online. Search for the titles through Google and discover new job places to earn from your home.

• Jigsaw - It’s a pretty flaky model but if you have a Rolodex full of good contacts, you can sell them here. I can’t make sense of it but it looks like you get $0.10 per profile.
• KarmaOne - They are basically a recruiting website. If you fill one of their jobs by finding a good candidate, you’ll get paid anywhere from $50-$12,000. It all depends on how desperate the hiring company is.
• LinkShare.com - If you have a site, you can join Linkshare. Once enrolled for free, you can choose companies whose ads are pertinent to your site. Companies have the ultimate say on working with you. Like Commission Junction, there are a ton of companies waiting to evaluate your site.
• Microsoft Adcenter - Bid on keywords and Microsoft places your created ads then they are searched for. This is similar to Google Adwords. You do not need a site for this.
• Overstock.com - Sell your stuff on Overstock.com
• Pageflakes - This is a company that developed a user-defined Ajax homepage to show feeds, flickr photos, and a ton of other things. Think of it as a replacement for your Google Homepage. Anyway - they’ll pay you $1 per referral that you send over. They are not part of a wider affiliate program so you do it direct. This one is pretty simple.
• Pay Per Post - I don’t agree with this model entirely but they have advertisers that will pay you to write about their products on your blog.
• Pheedo - If you have an RSS feed, run it through Pheedo. Like Feedburner, they can include ads into your feed and if you really become large, advertisers will pay a premium for you to show their ads.
• Shareasale - I’ve never really worked with them but I do have an account. They are similar to Commission Junction and Linkshare however they seem to have lower tiered companies with advertising offers.
• Shoemoney - This is a blog that can teach you a ton on making money online. I’ve spent hours reading his old stuff.
• Software Judge - They will pay you up to $50 to review software.
• Text Link Ads - I have never made a dime here but I know people that have. You can earn by sending advertisers to them or by selling spots on your site. You must have a real site or blog to do this - nothing on a shared domain (i.e. /blogspot).
• Vibrant Media - Don’t bother unless your site has 500,000 page views of text based content a month. If you have that readership, these are the guys that display bubble box ads to underlined words on your site.
• West Work At Home Agent - Not entirely online but this is worth a mention because it’s won awards and is very legitimate. If you are an at-home Mom or free-lancer without work, you should check this out.
• Yahoo Publisher Network- This is the Yahoo version of Google Adsense.

• Clicksor - These are the guys that generate contextual ads on sites that show up when you hover over a double-underlined word.
• Commission Junction - If you have a site, you can join Commission Junction. Once enrolled for free, you can choose companies whose ads are pertinent to your site. Companies have the ultimate say on working with you. Their are easily over 1,000 companies to choose from here.
• CreamAid - For blogs only, advertisers provide you with a topic and you write about it on your site. To do this, you have to install a flash widget into your blog post. The more people you bring into the conversation through the widget, the more you get paid. It’s difficult to explain.
• eefoof - Think of it as YouTube + Flickr + Music. You add original content and they pay you based on the visitors you attract.
• Ether - If you are an expert on something, Ether provides a way for people to pay you to talk about it in a one-on-one setting. If you want to charge $250/hr, that’s fine. You have to do all the advertising so you should have a blog or site already established.
• eBay - Come on, you know what this is.
• eBay Stores - If you have a real store and want to sell your stuff online, this is a decent option to get you started.
• ELance - Name gives it away. Programmers, Codes, Web Designers, Writers, Editors, can look for freelance opportunities.
• Feedvertising - This is an arm of Text Link Ads and is currently only good for Wordpress 2.0 Users. This does me no good currently, but as you can guess, they place ads in your feed(s).
• Feedburner - Not only are they the best place to house your feeds, they will also add ads to your feed. You get paid per impression and click.
• Google Adsense - Come on, you don’t need an explanation. These ads are all over the place. Google displays relevant ads based on your site’s content
• Google Adwords - Create simple text ads and choose keywords that determine when they are displayed. This is where the Adsense Content comes from. You do not need a site for this.
• Google Answers - If you are good, Google will pay you to answer questions in your specialty. Questions all come from normal people like you and me. You can get paid $2.50+ per answer you provide.
• H3.com - Get paid to fill jobs. Commissions range from $50-$5,000. It all depends on how tough the job is to fill and how desperate the hiring company is. This is another one that’s tough to explain.
• Indeed.com - Add their job board to your site. They then post jobs based on the geographic location of visitors and the position types you pre-select. I tried it and I they continually report that I sent 0 visitors and I know that’s not right. Nevertheless, I may have an isolated problem so they make the list.
• InnerSell - If you have a customer that wants to buy something you cannot sell, you can sell the lead here.
• Jellyfish - This is a shopping site that pays you a percentage of the purchases made by people you refer. They are not part of a wider affiliate program so you do it direct.

• Blish - Whether you’re a company with thousands of digital (downloadable) products, or you’ve written an ebook or some code, Blish offers you a place to sell that content.
• Blog - Start a blog and consistently write excellent content. With good ad placement, you may make some money.
• Business Opportunities Blog - I am adding this because I am a subscriber to their site and I see ideas everyday that could result in making money. A lot of the ideas pertain to online businesses. If you are an aspiring entrepreneur, it’s a good reference.
• CafePress - You provide a design, they’ll toss it on a T-Shirt, Hat, etc. No upfront costs. Get a free online shop and promote your products on your website.
• Chitika - Their eMiniMalls service has shown great results for many Bloggers and site owners. You choose a keyword and they show relevant products on your site using a pretty unique interface.
• Clickbank - Another Affiliate Program site with 10,000+ products to advertise
• ClicknWork - Get paid $5-$150 per hour for basically doing freelance work on a per-assignment basis. You have to pass a pretty tough test to get in.

I have recently read Jeanne Sharbuno's mind boggling book '52 ways to
LIVE SUCCESS'
and can't stop myself from quoting some excerpts verbatim from her
book.

'Success means more than money, fame or managing tasks well - it's also
about getting the best out of yourself, gaining respect, controlling
stress, and leading a happy, calm and fulfilling life. We often try to
solve our problems by looking for external solutions only to get
frustrated when the problems keep showing up over and over again. But
the real solution lies within ourselves.'
Instead of behaving in the above manner, and honestly speaking, perhaps
most of us have this kind of stressed out negative lifestyle in vogue
today! But it is definitely worthwhile to extricate ourselves from this
mess and the first thing which could come very handy in this regard is
doing some MEDITATION everyday.
The fact is we can not change our life for the better by trying to
change the circumstances or people in our life. Jeanne says there is a
formula for living success....

1.BE
Be yourself.Know who you really are. Know what's most important to you.
Know what makes you unique. Know what you do best. This introspection
and clarity will take you into the second stage.

Do those things you do best. Use your gifts and talents in a way that
helps others. Touch people in meaningful ways. Leave a lasting legacy.
This takes you to the third stage.
3.HAVE
Have a life, not just a lifestyle. A life oriented around what's most
important to you. A life with financial rewards for doing what you love
to do.

Which formula do we subscribe to? If it's the OUTSIDE IN formula, then
it's time to turn that around. Re-designing our life around the INSIDE
OUT formula is an evolving process We should start by saying no to
HAVING as our primary goal and commit to turning our priorities around.
We must decide today to say yes to BEING first, and the doing and

Basic Web Search
#1: Search
Searching Google is simple. Enter one or more search
terms into the search box and click "Google Search."
Google quickly responds with a Results Page, a list of
web pages that are related to the terms you searched
for. This list is sort by relevancy, with the most relevant
web page listed first.

Web Search: Basic Tips & Tricks
Although searching Google is easy, searching Google
effectively requires a bit more understanding of how
Google works. This is why most Google users end up
blindly following links in hope of finding what they are
looking for. Below are some introductory tips on how
to target your searches to be more effective:
Note: In the examples below, I will refer to search terms by
putting text inside single quote marks. For example,
searching Google for 'new haven weather' is the same as
entering this search:
#3: Selecting Search Terms
Selecting the correct search terms is essential to finding
the information you are looking for. Begin with simple,
direct terms – if you are looking for information on
Picasso, search for 'Picasso'.
However, usually you will be using multiple search
terms to narrow and target your search. If you are
searching for a 'Picasso print', you should search for
Picasso print rather than simply 'Picasso' or 'print' by
themselves. Searching for 'buy Picasso print' may
deliver even better results.
The more specific and accurate your terms are, the
better. For example, searching for 'art prints' will result
in broad listings, whereas 'large picasso prints' will be
more targeted.
#4: Capital Letters
Capitalization has no impact on your search terms
because Google does not take it into account. All
letters are interpreted as lower case, so PaRiS hilTON is
the same as Paris Hilton or paris Hilton. All of these
searches will end up with the same results.
#5: "And" or "Or"?
Google assumes that you are searching for web pages
that include all of your search terms. For example, if
you search for 'park city ski mountains', Google will
locate web pages that include all four terms. This
means that a page about ski mountains in the Rockies
or Park City ski shops will likely not show up in the
results.
In programming speak, this means Google is
performing an "and" search, as opposed to an "or"
search. As such, you never need to include 'and' in your
search terms, unless you are looking for that word in
particular.
#6: Common Words
By default, Google excludes commonly used words
such as where, how and why, and single letters or
digits, such as 'an' or '1'. When Google does exclude a
search term, it displays which words were removed in
the statistics bar.
If, for some reason, you want to make sure Google does
NOT remove your common word, you can tell Google
to include it. Simply put a '+' before the word, such as
'Calphalon Nonstick +II'. Make sure to have a space
before the '+' symbol.
Alternatively, another way to include common words is
to search for a phrase by enclosing your search in
quotations – "Calphalon Nonstick II". This method is
discussed below in What about Phrases?
#7: Similar Terms
By default, Google searches for your search terms and
words that are similar to some or all of your terms. This
process is called stemming.
For example, if you search for 'buying real estate in Palo
Alto' Google will also search for 'buy real estate in Palo
Alto' and 'buyers real estate Palo Alto'. Any variants of
your search terms will be visible and highlighted in the
web page search results.
#8: "What about Phrases?"
Often times you will only want results that match an
exact phrase. Simply putting the search terms in
quotations tells Google to treat the search as a phrase
search. For example, if you want to find the text from
the Declaration of Independence you could search for:
This search method will result in web pages that
contain the exact phrase, so pages that contain a
similar phrase, "we hold these truths to be sacred and
undeniable", from a prior draft of the Declaration will
not show up. This method is particularly useful for
proper names, quotes and lyrics.
#9: Being Negative can Help
If one of you search terms can have more than one
meaning, such as disc (could refer to a compact discs or
a Frisbee), you can select words for Google to ignore.
To ignore a word, put a minus sign, or '-', in front of the
word. Ignoring words will result in more relevant
search results
For example, if you want to find web pages where you
can buy discs for ultimate Frisbee playing, as opposed
to buying compact discs:
#10: Determining Your Results
Google has created a system called PageRank which is
responsible for determining the order in which search
results appear. The PageRank system begins by figuring
out how many websites link to any particular website
and then figuring out how many websites link to that
website. This represents an informal voting system.
For example, if 5,000 websites link to your website and
only 800 link to mine, your website has been deemed
more useful by the community at large. However,
shouldn't a link from a highly ranked website be more
valuable than a link from a random personal website?
Yes, Google also takes this into consideration. The
PageRank system weighs the "votes" based on
the importance of the website from which the "vote" is
delivered. After you send a search request, Google
analyzes the rankings of the pages that match your
request. Google doesn't produce your search
results solely from these rankings, because a highly
ranked site may actually have no relevance to you.
Rather, Google compares how many times your
keywords are found on each page and the relationship
between pages containing multiple keywords. Google
delivers the most relevant page first, which may or may
not be the highest-ranking page.
If you use the Google toolbar, you can
easily see the PageRank of any page by
mousing over the PageRank icon. PageRank is always a
number between one and ten.
Note: The PageRank system protects the integrity of
Google search results and prevents websites from gaining
higher placement for commercial gain. In fact, Google
has never sold placement within the search results.
#11: Are You Feeling Lucky?
Perhaps the most useless, yet most highly discussed,
feature of Google is the I'm Feeling Lucky button
located on the homepage next to the search button.
After you enter your search terms, clicking this button
will send you directly to the most relevant web page
Google can find (i.e, the web page that would have
been listed first in your search results).
Using this feature is useful for very straightforward
searches, such as 'Stanford', 'IBM' or '49ers' which will
send you to their respective official web sites.
However, when researching anything more specific,
such as 'George Bush budget' or '49ers quarterback
statistics' will often require searching through a
broader set of results.
Web Search: Intermediate Tips & Tricks
As the number of web pages on the Internet continues
to grow, Google continues to add additional search
tools to make locating your desired information easier.
This section highlights a set of intermediate tips and
tricks that will help you narrow your search results and
find what you are looking for.
#12: Book Search
In an effort to fulfill its mission of "organizing the
world's information," Google is constantly adding text
from books into their searchable index. To search
books directly, include the term 'books' in your search
query.
When Google finds at least one book that matches your
search, it will display an image of four books (located
above next to #12) under the search results. Click on
the book that you believe most closely matches your
search.
Note: Many additional Google services can be identified
by a small logo in your search results. Keep an eye out for
these icons, which are included in this book.
#13: Cached Web Pages
In order for Google to quickly display search results, it
maintains a copy (or "cached version") of every web
page it has seen on the Internet. When Google finds an
updated copy of the page, it discards the prior copy it
had. However, web pages are often taken down or
unavailable, and the prior copy that Google has can be
useful in finding information you are looking for.
If you click on the Cached link in your search results:
Google will display the last copy it has of the web page.
In addition, Google highlights your search terms in
bold on the Cached page to help you find the most
relevant information.
#14: Calculator
Google has a built in calculator function that responds
to mathematical search queries. Simply enter a
calculation into the search box and click Search:
The Google calculator can also solve much more
advanced problems such as units of measure or
conversions. Here are a few example calculations that
show off the strength of the calculator:
• Multiple Functions: 5+2*2
• Exponents: 4^5
• Square Root: sqrt(16)
• Conversion #1: half a cup in tablespoons
• Conversion #2: 135 pounds * 9500 feet in Calories
#15: Currency Conversion
A more complicated, yet very common, conversion is
currency conversion. Google has built out a currency
converter separate from the calculator. To use the
converter, simply enter a conversion into the search
box and click Search:
Here are some sample queries:
* 3.5 USD in GBP
* currency of Mexico in French money
* 5 British pounds in Japanese money
* 2.8 USD per gallon in INR per litre
#16: Dictionary
Google consolidates many online glossary and
dictionary sources to form the Google dictionary. To
determine the definition of a word or phrase, simply
include the word 'definition' or 'define' in you search
query along with the words to define. For example:
If Google is able to find a definition of the word or
phrase, it will be displayed at the top of your search
results and be listed under Web Definitions.
#17: File Types
Google is able to scour the web for 13 different types of
non-HTML file formats. The 13 formats are:
1. Adobe Portable Document Format (pdf)
2. Adobe PostScript (ps)
3. Lotus 1-2-3
4. Lotus WordPro (lwp)
5. MacWrite (mw)
6. Microsoft Excel (xls)
7. Microsoft PowerPoint (ppt)
8. Microsoft Word (doc)
9. Microsoft Works (wks, wps, wdb)
10. Microsoft Write (wri)
11. Rich Text Format (rtf)
12. Shockwave Flash (swf)
13. Text (ans, txt)
To limit your search results to only include a specific file
type, you must add "filetype:" before the type of
document you are searching for with no spaces.
For example, if you want to find .PDF documents about
using Google AdSense, you would search for:
If there are relevant .PDF documents found on the web,
Google will display [pdf] in blue letters to the left of
each search result. Additionally, Google adds a "View
as HTML" option, which allows you to view to contents
of the document without having the corresponding
application installed on your computer.
#18: Movies
Google Movies search is straightforward. It allows you
to find movie information and show times in your local
area. Simply include the word 'movies' or 'showtimes'
in your search results, along with your zip code if you
haven't already provided it to Google Local, and the
movie information and showtimes will be displayed.
For example:
Google Movies includes a more advanced feature
which can help you find movies related an actor,
director or quotation. For example, if you cannot
remember the name of the movie that an actress was
in, simply use the query 'movie:' followed by the
actresses name.
Alternatively, to search for a movie with a specific
quotation, you can search for:
#19: Music Search
Google provides access to an enormous amount of
information about music, including artists, songs,
albums and lyrics. Simply enter the name of an artist
into the search box.
Google will provide results which include an artist
photo, past albums and popular songs. There will also
be a link to "More music results" which provides
additional images, album covers, user reviews and links
to stores to purchase the music.
#20: World's Largest Phonebook
If Google is not the World's Largest Phonebook yet, it
will likely be so soon. Google can find street addresses
and phone numbers for both businesses and
residences. To search for a business in the United
States, enter your search in the format of business
name, city, state.
To search for a residential address or phone number,
enter the search request in any of these formats:
• first name or initial, last name, city or state
• first name or initial, last name, area code or zip
• last name, zip code or city and state
• phone number (including area code)
If the thought of the world having access to your home
address or phone number freaks you out, you can ask
Google to remove it. Simply click on the PhoneBook
Removal Form and follow the instructions.
#21: Questions and Answers (Q&A)
Google is a lot smarter than most people think, so don't
believe anyone who tells you to Ask Jeeves. Google
can provide answers to common questions, so simply
enter your question in the search box:
Other useful questions you can ask Google:
• Where is Brown University?
• How old is Paris Hilton?
• Who is John Kerry?
• Where was Cher born?
#22: Important Numbers Search
In an effort to better organize the world's information,
Google provides access to package tracking info,
patents, trademarks and a slew of other online
information sources.
All you need to do to access this resource is to search
by number. If it’s a FedEx package, enter the tracking
number, if it’s a patent, enter the patent number. Here
are some examples:
• UPS – 1A9999B99999999999
• FedEx – 777777777777
• USPS – 1111 2222 3333 4444 55
• Vehicle ID (VID) – AAAAA999A9AA99999
• UPC Codes – 073333531084
• Area codes – 415
• Patents – Patent 1234123
• FAA Airplane Reg. Numbers – n199ua
#23: Similar Pages
The Similar Pages Link is a quick and powerful research
tool that finds web pages that are similar or
related to the search result listed.
This can be useful when a page provides interesting
information, but you want more. Or, try the Similar
Pages Link if you are looking for a quick way to
generate a wealth of links about a subject, even if you
don't know all the right keywords.
#24: Site Search
Google can search for information within an individual
website. This is useful if you know which website holds
the information you are looking for or if you are
searching for pages within a single organization.
Simply type the keyword site: followed by the web
address. For example, if you searching for a map of Yale
University, you could enter:
Hint: Keywords such as "site:" are called advanced
operators. For more advanced operators, check out the
Advanced Web Search section below.
#25: Spell Check
Google automatically checks the spelling of any
keyword you search for. If Google determines that
you will generate more results by spelling a keyword
differently, Google will provide a link to search
using the new keyword spelling.
Google returns:
Hint: The Google spell checker is more powerful than most
spell checkers because it can correct proper nouns, places
and other words not found in the dictionary.
#26: Stock Quotes
Google is the quickest way to search the Internet for
stock quotes. Simply enter a stock ticker symbol, such
as MSFT and Google returns a link to stock information
#27: Show me the Map
Google can provide a street map for nearly any address
in the United States. To use this powerful service,
simply enter any street address into the search box:
When Google notices that your search is for an address,
it returns a set of links to view that address on a map:
Click on the link Google Maps, and you get:
In addition to offering their own Google Maps service,
Google works with Yahoo!Maps and Mapquest to
provide high-quality maps.
#28: Travel Information
Google provides the quickest way to check status of
airline flight times, airport delays and other travel
conditions.
To determine a airport status or weather issue, simply
enter an airport code (a three digit code, such as SFO
for San Francisco) and add the word "airport." Google
will return with the proper information.
Alternatively, for specific flight information, enter the
airline number and the flight number.
#29: Weather
Four day weather forecasts and conditions for any
location in the United States are only a search away.
Simply enter a city name or zip code, followed by the
word "weather" and Google provides the weather
results.
The weather conditions and forecasts results are
provided to Google by a company called Weather
Underground, Inc.
#30: Web Page Translation
Google translation allows English speakers a way to
read non-english web pages.
Using dynamic machine translation technology, Google
is able to translate web pages in Italian, Spanish,
French, German, Portuguese and many more
languages. Simply look for a "Translate this page" link
(highlighted below) next to search results and click on
it to receive the translated version.
#31: Google Links or "Link Love"
Ever wonder who else thinks a website is useful,
interesting or otherwise worth linking to?
Reverse Link Search allows you to find out what other
websites link to any specific website. Simply enter
link: followed by the web address. For example, to
search for websites that link to the official U.S.
Squash website, simply enter:
Google returns with over 1000 results. Who knew there
were so many squash fans!
Note: Understanding who links to you is important
because inbound links are used in determining your
PageRank, or how high your web page is listed in search
results. Many people actively ask others to link to them to
boost there results, which has resulted in catch phrase
"link love" being shorthand for an inbound link.

out the Advanced Web Search section below.
#32: Advanced Search Page

Clearly, there is a lot more than you can do with Google
than just enter a keyword or two and hope for the best.
In an effort to consolidate all these advanced search
features we have discussed, Google created a single
Advanced Search Page.
The Advanced search page offers a large amount of
search refinements, such as only searching for:
• pages with all your search terms
• pages with your exact phrased
• pages with at least one keyword
• pages without any keyword
• pages in specific languages
• pages in specific file formats
• recently updated pages
• pages with numbers in a specific range
• pages within a domain or website
• pages that don't contain adult material
Advanced Search also offers:

• Google Link ("Link Love")
• Topic Specific Searches

#33: Setting Your Preferences

Google Preferences allows you to modify and save the
way Google searches for you on all Google services.
You can have Google:
• produce up to 100 results on each page (instead
of the default 10)
• filter out inappropriate or adult-oriented web
pages with Google SafeSearch
• open a new browser window every time you click
on a search result
• change the Google interface language to your
native language or one you are studying
• search only for pages in a specific language
• always present search results in a new window
Hint: Your computer must accept cookies in order to save
your preferences
Advanced Web Search
Google now supports a wide range of "advanced
operators" which are words or symbols (such as +, OR,
site: and many more) that have a specific meaning to
the Google search engine. Usually, these advanced
operators will narrow your search in some way or have
Google perform a different type of search. For
example, the advanced operator "+" tells Google to
include something it would have normally excluded
and "site:" tells Google to only search within a particular
domain.

#34: Plus ("+") Search
Google typically ignores commonly used words and
characters such as I, where, the, who, digits and letters,
so that your search results are better and faster.
However, there are times where you may want to keep
a commonly used word, letter or number.
For example, if you are searching for the specific line of
Calphalon cookware called Calphalon II, you want the
"II" to be included in your search. In order to do this,
simply search for:
#35: Synonym search
There are times when you want to search for not only
your search term, but synonyms of your search term as
well. This is quite easy to do with Google, simply add
the tilde sign ("~") in front of the search term you want
to synonym search for.
For example, if you are interested in searching for steak
related information and recipes:
#36: Numrange Search - [#]…[#]
Occasionally, you will be searching for a number or
some numbers will be included in your keywords.
Google offers a numrange search that allows you to
narrow your search results to numbers that fall into a
particular number range.
For example, you may be interested in searching for
information about Mickey Mantle, but only between
1950 and 1960, or you may be looking for a safe that
weighs less than 25 pounds.
You can also use this advanced operator to do product
searches, such as iPods between $25 and $50.
#37: Cached Pages - "cache:"
As previously discussed, when you use Google you are
actually searching Google's archived index of billions of
web pages. The advanced operator "cache:" takes you
to the version of the web page that Google has in its
index, regardless of the current state of the web page.
For example, if you want to see the last cached version
of the Yahoo home page, search for:
Note: There is no space before the domain name and
this functionality is also available in search results
under the term "Cached Link"
#38: Definitions - "define:"
Previously, we discussed the Google dictionary feature
which provides a link to definitions of your search
keywords. However, if you only want a definition of a
word or phrase, without any web search results, you
can use the advanced operator "define:".
Simply, place "define:" before any word or phrase you
want a definition for and make sure that there is no
space between the operator and the keyword or
keywords. For example:
#39: Domain search - "site:"
Google lets you narrow your search results to only
those that are within a specific domain. This is
particularly useful if you are looking for something
from a particular company, college or individual.
For example, if you are a Google fanatic and want to
find papers written by Sergey Brin or Larry Page while
at Stanford, simply use advanced operator "site:" to
narrow your search to http://www.stanford.edu.
#40: Related Pages - "related:"
If you are interested in discovering web pages that are
similar to a particular web page, you should use the
advanced operator "related:". This is particularly useful
when you want to find other pages within a website or
if you want to find other websites that are associated
with a website.
This is identical to the search functionality discussed
above called "Similar Pages" which appears as a link in
your search results.
#41: Web Page Information - "info:"
There are two simple ways to find out what information
Google has about a web page. First, you can use the
advanced operator "info:" followed by the domain of
the web page:
Second, you can simply enter the domain name directly
into the Google search box.
Note: If you enter a domain, that you have previously
visited, directly into the Google search box on the
Google Toolbar, Google will actually send you directly
to that domain. So, if you are using the toolbar, use the
first method to discover web page information.
#42: Stock Information - "stocks:"
Any search beginning with the advanced operator
"stocks:" will send you directly to the Yahoo Finance
page for that ticker symbol. This method allows the
user to skip search results associated with the ticker
symbol.
A nice feature of this operator is that you can include
multiple ticker symbols into the search query. Google
will provide information about each ticker symbol you
enter:
#43: Page Titles with Keywords - "allintitle:"
The advanced operator "allintitle:" allows you to limit
your search results to only web pages with your key
words in the page title. For example, if you search for
Google will provide search results containing web
pages with both of those words in the title.
#44: Page Titles and Text with Keywords - "intitle:"
A slightly broader search than "allintitle:" is simply
"intitle:" This operator searches for web pages
containing at least one of you keywords, but not
necessarily both. Using the same example as above, a
search for:
will return a list of search results containing web pages
with either the word coupons or the word deals in the
title.
Note: Placing the operator "intitle:" in front of each
keyword in your search is the equivalent as using the
"allintitle:" operator.
#45: Domains with Keywords - "allinurl:"
Similar to the Page Titles with Keywords operators
above, "allinurl:" allows you to limit your search results
to only web pages with your key words in the page
URL. For example, if you search for
Google will provide search results containing web
pages with both of those words in the URL such as:
• www.free-sms.com
• www.free-sms.de
• www.send-free-sms.netfirms.com
• www.send-free-sms.us
Note: The "allinurl:" operator only works with words
and not with symbols or URL components such as "/".
#46: Domains and Pages with Keywords - "inurl:"
A slightly broader search than "allinurl:" is simply
"inurl:" This operator searches for web pages
containing at least one of you keywords, but not
necessarily both, in the URL. Using the same example

Science and Technology, Sports, Entertainment,
and Health.
Google News only contains articles that have appeared
in the last thirty days and can be focused on an
Australian, Canadian, Indian, New Zealand, United
Kingdom, or U.S. audience.
Note: The entire Google News website is solely produced
by computer algorithms. This allows for rapid updating of
stories and a sorting methodology based on relevance
and importance similar to Google Web Search results.

Google Groups allows you to search an archive of
online newsgroups, which are essentially text based
discussion groups. Newsgroups exist for nearly any
topic you could imagine.
Simply enter keywords relating to the particular
newsgroup, author or topic in which you are interested
in and Google will return with a list of links to messages
containing your keywords.
Since this archive dates back to 1981, you must be
detailed in your search request. To narrow down
your results, try to use the Advanced Search link on the
main search page and choose a specific
period of time in which to search.
Hint: When searching for an exact phrase in Google
Groups, the search engine does not include common
words like Web Search. So, use the "+" symbol to include
common words. For example, to search for the shoe
brand To Boot, enter +to boot.

Searching is done by keywords, similar to web search,

many connotations. For example, if you are searching
for a picture of a genie, don't simply search for the

Bookmark. A word or picture ‘marked’ so that you can
jump to it by name from within a list. Also used by

Browser. Software that allows users to access and

such as Mosaic and Netscape, are graphical. Lynx is a
text-based browser.
Client. A program that requests services from other

DNS (Domain Name Service). DNS servers translate

Host. A computer that provides services to other

HTML (HyperText Markup Language). The language
of the World Wide Web...a set of codes that tells a
computer how to display the text, graphics, and other
objects that comprise a web page. The central
functional element of HTML is the "HyperText link,"

another web page and display it on your computer
screen.
HTTP. HyperText Transfer Protocol: The protocol used
to provide hypertext links between pages. It is the
standard way of transferring HTML documents
between Web servers and browsers.
IP address. A computer's unique Internet address,
which usually looks like this: 128.223.142.14. Most
computers also have a "domain name" assigned to
them, which represents cryptic IP addresses with words

Mailing list. An email-based forum for discussing a
particular topic. Mailing lists are administrated by a

Network. Two or more computing devices connected
together by wiring, cable, digital circuit, or other

POP (Post Office Protocol). An older method used by

Portal. A Web site that acts as a doorway or
introduction to many other Web sites that are

Protocol. A precise definition of how computers
interact with one another on a network. In order for the
Internet to work reliably, participants agree to set up
their systems in accordance with a specific set of
protocols, ensuring compatibility between systems.
Search engine. An online service which can trawl
through the contents of the Web (Websites,
newsgroups, email addresses) looking for specific
phrases or words. The engine asks you for keywords
and then provides a list of web sites that contain your
chosen words. Clicking on the listed web sites will take
you to the relevant web page.
Server. A computer or application that provides files,
data, or some other central body of information to
multiple "client" computers by means of a network.
URL (Uniform Resource Locator) or Domain Name. A
fancy term for the address of a World Wide Web page

Access provider. An organization that provides access to the Internet.
Also known as Internet Service Provider (ISP)
Address. The identification of a physical or virtual distinct entity in a
network. On the Internet, this network address is called a URL (Uniform
Resource Locator). For instance: http://www.gsh.org. [It is important to
type these accurately.]
Apache. An open source Web server package, mostly used on Linux
and Solaris platforms.
Application servers. Software used to provide an interface between
systems to enable Web services.
ASCII. American Standard Code for Information Interchange. A
standard for digital representation of letters, numbers, and control
codes; understood by most computers.
ASP. Active Server Pages - a scripting language created by Microsoft
for dynamically created web pages and database functions. Web

Auto responder. An email message that is sent automatically in

Backup. To make a second copy of a file as a safety measure. The copy
may be held on a floppy disk, a zip disk, or on CD-ROM.
Bandwidth. A Term used to describe how much data you can send
through a connection to the Net. The transmission capacity of a given
medium, in terms of how much data the medium can transmit in a
given amount of time. The greater the bandwidth, the faster the rate
of data transmission. Information carrying capacity of a
communication channel.
Bit. An acronym for Binary digit. It is the basic unit of information in
the computer world. A bit is a digit in binary form and carries one of
two values, 0 or 1.
Byte. A single computer character, generally eight bits. For example,
the letter 'G' in binary code is 01000111.
Cache. A section of computer memory set aside for storing
frequently-used data from a disk drive, speeding up the transfer of
information.
Cascading style sheets. An extension to HTML which allows style
features (color, font size, spacing, and page-layering) to be specified
for certain elements of a hypertext document. CSSs are especially
useful for making a global change to multiple web pages - because the
style is specified just once, often in a separate file.
CGI. Common Gateway Interface - an interactive system installed on
Web servers to automatically process information entered into Web
page forms.
Checkbox. A small square box which, when clicked on, displays a
cross or tick to show that an option has been selected.
Commercial online services. A company that, for a fee, allows
computer users to dial in via modem to access its information and
services, which can include Internet access. Examples are America
Online, CompuServe, Delphi, and Prodigy.
Compression. A technique to reduce the size of a file in order to make
it more manageable and quicker to download. Compressed files have
to be extracted using a utility such as PKZip or WinZip. Such files
usually have a .zip extension.
Cookies. Small text files created by an Internet web site and stored on
the user's computer. A cookie contains information that can help
speed access on subsequent visits, such as passwords and details of
the user's display facilities.
CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). A way of assigning visual style to the
content of Web pages. The style sheet deals with color, fonts, and the
position of text - leaving HTML code to describe the structure of the
content.
Database. A computer holding large amounts of information that can
be searched by an Internet user. A storehouse of information on the
Net.
Default setting. The computer or software settings made by the
manufacturer. These will remain in place unless you decide to change
them.
DHTML. Dynamic HTML. An integration of JavaScript, Cascading
Style Sheets, and the Document Object Model. With DHTML, the
content of a web page can move across the screen or respond to user
inputs.
Dialogue box. A box which appears on screen, inviting input from the
user. Usually to set options, or choose a name for saving files.
Directory. A list of files or other directories on a computer at an
Internet site. (Same thing as a folder.)
E-commerce. Performing business transactions on the Internet -
which may include the use of credit cards, 'shopping trolleys', forms,
and secure servers.
Emoticons. Smileys [ :-) ]and other character art used to express
feelings in email communication.
Encryption. A process that turns files into gobbledegook so that they
cannot be read, other than by programs containing the appropriate
password-protected encryption software.
Executable files. These are programs or self-extracting files with an
.exe filename extension. Clicking on an executable file will start the
program running.
Extensions. Files are identified by a three or four letter or number
code, called an extension. This comes after the full stop following the
filename. Common types include .doc and .txt for word-processor
documents. Files ending in .gif and .jpg generally contain images. Files
ending in .exe and .com usually contain executable programs which
load into memory and carry out a set of instructions.
Extranet. A type of Internet Web site that is a closed community

Firewall. A security system, usually for networked computers, which

Flame. To send a harsh, critical email message to another user, usually

Frames. A device in HTML which allows multiple windows to be
viewed simultaneously in one browser screen. Often used by Web

Hits. The number of requests for files made to a Web server. A much
misunderstood term. It is not the number of unique visitors. A typical

Host. An Internet company providing storage space for web sites on

HTTPS. HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure - is used to secure Web

Hypertext/hyperlink. A highlighted word or graphic in a document
that, when clicked upon, takes the user to a related piece of
information on the Internet. When the cursor passes over a link, it

Network. A group of computers that are connected in some fashion.
Most school networks are known as LANs, or Local Area Networks,

Online/Offline. When you are logged onto a computer through your

Shareware. Software programs that you can try before you buy. If you

This saves you travel time, which you can instead spend on grabbing a healthy bite to eat. And, if you don't have any face-to-face meetings scheduled, then you don't have to worry about looking perfect after your workout.

7. If you haven't already done so, invest in a good hands-free headset for your phone. This is a great way to multi-task because your hands are free to do other things while you concentrate on your conference call. You can even do some simple (but worthwhile) exercise moves. Some good choices are squats, tricep dips, lunges, wall push-ups, etc.

8. Keep healthy snacks available for when you need an energy boost or simply just need something to chew on to help you get through some tough work. Don't forget to keep water on hand and sip some all throughout your day.

9. Purchase an exercise stability ball. While there are dozens of great toning exercises you can do with the ball, it's also beneficial to simply sit on it. Try sitting on it instead of a chair for even short periods throughout your day. This will help build your core strength (your trunk area).

10. Don't forget the importance of stretching. Take a couple of minutes every hour to stand up and stretch your entire body.

ClicknWork has tutorial to help you research effectively, and there are sites with tips on where to find online databases and tools to help you locate hard-to-find information.
ClicknWork pays about $10 an hour for searchers and $15-50 for expert Web guides, while business writers or editors make about $15-30 for a 90-minute online session. AskDownUnder allows researchers to quote a price per query. Once a client accepts the quote, the researcher is alerted and sets to work.
Says Tsitas: "It's difficult to say exactly how much a person could make, since everyone competes against each other. Researchers are free to quote whatever price they want and the clients decide if they want to accept that quote instead of others from researchers with perhaps higher or lower overall ratings."
He adds that a person in India working full time as a researcher could expect to make a good Indian (not a US) wage: "If a researcher in India tried to quote US prices they would presumably be undercut by others from India. However, good researchers receive high ratings by clients and should be able to command more money for their services."

He adds: "We have requirements for different skills like specialist knowledge, business writing etc. But most of our work is based on sourcing quality answers to business questions."
